The weak R&D capability of my country's auto parts companies has always been a problem that everyone is very concerned about. For many years, there are different opinions on why parts companies have not invested in R&D and how they should invest in R&D.

We need to figure out what R&D is. In my opinion, the so-called R&D can be divided into two levels: one is the research of basic technology, and the other is the development of specific products.

The research of basic technology is mainly about innovations in technology, process and materials, and the results of its research will be applied to specific products. Development of specific products, including product planning, design, testing, manufacturing (volume production) and sales. Reflect the market competitiveness of enterprises. If an enterprise does not have basic technology research and only engages in product development technology, it is difficult to get rid of the traces of original technology and imitation, and its competitiveness will be greatly reduced if it lacks innovation.

At present, my country's imported automobiles and parts from abroad are all developed products, using mature technology. Some multinational companies set up technology centers in China, mainly for adaptive product development. Overall, my country's auto industry is still in the stage of "copying" production technology.

As a component company, we must develop products and implement the market. The market is the vehicle (main engine) factory. Vehicle companies should put forward specific technical requirements to parts companies when designing products, and R&D personnel of parts companies will develop products according to the requirements, or apply the research results of basic technology to new products, and conduct trial production, testing and complete vehicles. Repeatedly coordinate with each other to meet the technical requirements of the vehicle. The product development of parts and components must be aimed at a certain vehicle. Without the vehicle, the development of parts and components is meaningless. Practice has proved that the development capability of parts and components is gradually formed in the interaction with vehicle development. However, the situation in our country is that joint ventures continue to buy ready-made models from foreign parties, and their product development process has been completed abroad, but only copied and produced in China. Most of the new products developed by self-owned brand vehicle companies are eager for quick success and are busy with the market, in order to ensure product quality and production time. Therefore, it is difficult for my country's own brand parts and components companies to have the opportunity to develop products, and it is impossible to talk about the formation of development capabilities.
